SHANGHAI FORTRESS

Initially approached to supply design and concept work for graphic interfaces and holographic displays, the project quickly evolved to include VFX and titles for this 2019 Chinese blockbuster. Working with Phenom Films, the brief was to produce a look which felt appropriate to the futuristic military and impending alien invasion style setting, whilst retaining the high graphic design quality, for which Territory Studio was known. With the concept underway, Territory was then asked to work on several sequences for the graphic interfaces we'd designed. Shanghai Fortress demonstrates its VFX and motion graphics teams’ talent and its studio’s extended capability to deliver a project from concept through to final comp. Big projects require big teams. I was lucky enough to be part of this cool creative experience. I was part of the design team at Territory Studio to help out mainly with the creation of the hologram screens used by the soldiers and some GFX used to dress the background of certain scenes like the big screenwall projection in the control room. Under the eye of the VFX supervisor we came up with the idea of having a 2.5D layering of several graphic elements in order to add depth and complexity to the virtual screens with which then actors were supposed to interact with.
